What is Slingo? – How to Play – Bonus Symbols

What is Slingo

With vast technological advancements, we have seen the world of online gambling change so rapidly. Not only have the sites provided us with more gaming options than our brains can deal with, but the types of games have changed too. For most of us, we ventured onto online sites to play bingo, but sadly its popularity seems to have waned recently and left a space for a new contender.

Because our time is precious, we need to ensure that we have chosen a game we enjoy. You will have noticed over recent years that slots appear to be the king of casino, especially since they have evolved from simple spinning reels to full on animated stories. Sadly, the dramatic change hadn’t occurred for the beloved bingo, which we believe led to the drop in players. But now make way for a revolution in both bingo and slots, namely the incredible game of Slingo.

Slingo is a combination of both bingo and slots, which means you no longer have to choose between the two. It’s introduction into the betting community, brought new vigour to the everyday game of bingo.

History of Slingo

So, what is Slingo? It was created by Sal Falciglia Sr. in 1994 when he founded the company Slingo. The rights of the game were sold to RealNetworks in 2013 and then again in July 2015 to Gaming Realms. From this point popularity of the game soared, with variations being introduced such as Slingo Originals. Initially Slingo was a free game, but as you can imagine when it gained a following it changed to a real money game.

Slingo – The Basics

What is Slingo

Alike bingo, Slingo is simple to play and there are many varieties, with some being single player and others multi-player; meaning every gamer should be able to find one they like.

Within the basic game you will see the combination of 75-ball bingo and a 5-reel slot on a 5 x 5 grid. This grid is similar to a bingo card with the reels found just below it, but there is only one space on each reel visible.

As you start you will be given a specific number of spins, which tends to be between 10 and 20. Some of the spins are free, but then the rest will have a cost up to the maximum number. To begin the game, you click spin and the numbers will appear in the reel under the card. Once the reel stops spinning you will either have 5 numbers or a feature symbol.

As you match numbers or symbols up from the reels to those on the bingo card, you will earn points. Some Slingo games will highlight the numbers which can be marked off, to make it easier for the player. Even if this is the case, we still recommend that you keep an eye out, because each round has a time limit which means you may lose out if you take too long. For players who use up all their spins, you can opt to purchase more.

If your Slingo game is multiplay (this means you’re playing against others), then the winner is the person who accumulates the highest number of points. You will find that different numbers, symbols, and combinations will lead to differing points being given. Winning a line can lead to your points increasing a lot, but not as much as the player who clears their card quickly. Symbols also have set points allocated depending on how they land and there are special features such as multipliers, free spins, and power ups, to ramp up that score board.

For single players, you’ll find the points system is the same, you’re just given a pre-set score to beat.

Slingo Symbols

The types of symbols you will find within a game of Slingo, will depend on the version. All bonus symbols will give the player points, but as you can imagine this too will vary depending on the game. The main special symbols or unlock features are:

Coins – which can provide both extra points and free spins.
Free Spin – Probably seems a little obvious, but you will get a spin without having to use your own credit.
Devils – Some symbols are better than others and as you can imagine this one isn’t that great for the player. If you land a Devil, then your score is cut in half, and you can lose numbers on your bingo card.
Cherubs – With the bad comes the good, because if the Cherub appears they will hit the Devil with an arrow and cancel out his action.
Jokers – Considered the wild cards of Slingo, you can use the Joker to daub any number you choose in the column above.
Super Jokers – Similar to the Joker, expect they can be used to mark off a number anywhere and as such they’re not confined to the same column.

Within the Slingo game you will find a pay table, so we always recommend that players head there first so they can learn about the different features and what symbols are available.

What are the Differences Between Slingo and Bingo or Slots?

The obvious difference between Slingo and bingo is the use of symbols on the card. Normally you would only see numbers on a bingo card, but they have been added to Slingo to provide us with more excitement.
Because of the flexibility of Slingo, you can have both single player and multiplayer. Traditionally bingo tends to be multiplayer, whereas slots are single player. Having both means you can choose depending on how you feel. Would you prefer some solo gaming time, or maybe you fancy heading to the chat rooms and meeting other Slingo fans.
In comparison to a normal slot game, you will see there is less reel space on Slingo. More specifically you will only see one space on each reel, whereas on a normal game this can be three or more.
Although slots can have various line ways, you don’t tend to see this as often in bingo. So Slingo has followed the slot route to create more fun. Depending on the game you play, you can gain points for completing lines vertically, horizontally, or diagonally; and in some there are even patterns.

Tips for Playing Slingo

Even though Slingo is a game of chance, there are specific things you can do to help tip the odds into your favour. It’s worth reminding, that to win the game you must accumulate the most points on the multiplayer options or reach the pre-set points for the single player version.

Some Slingo games will give away 3x or 5x multipliers which can help you complete a line quicker. Try and keep these until the end, so you can boost your point significantly.
Although we have already mentioned it, it’s worth repeating; make sure you read over the pay table. Knowing how the game works can have an impact on how you play. It’s also worth looking at You Tube for demos of the game so you can see what’s available. If you’re playing a new version of Slingo, then we’d still recommending heading to the pay table because each of them can be different.
If your chosen game has Powerups, then make use of them because extra spins and extra time can increase your points.
